An excellent perspective Jim and inspiring quotes from your readers; moved me to dust off Butler Shaffer's "Boundaries of Order" wherein he recollects asking himself as a law student : "...why should I have to justify my desire for liberty on *any* grounds other than the fact that I do not choose to be coerced? Why need I appeal to any principle beyond that of my own will? "

Thank you again Jim for your impactful writing. This piece brings to mind one of my favorite quotes from Heinlein:

"I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do."

"...rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will, within the limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others."

…I do not add 'within the limits of the law,' because the law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

is the rest of that particular gem from TJ.

If you need a little further encouragement, how about this, which I saw not too long ago on a church sign in western Maryland. "There is one who loves you more than your mother."
